Sportradar to Provide Data For The NHL

NHL-Logo-jpgSportradar, a data provider company, has just made a multi-year deal with the NHL. Starting in the 2015-2016 season, Sportradar will be the NHL’s exclusive provider of third party real-time data.

This will bring access to the NHL’s real-time play-by-play through the Hockey Information Tracking System (HITS). With instant access to data such as time on the ice, instant shot-tracking, and shot percentages, fans will get a better experience of the game.

NHL vice-president of digital media and strategic planning, Stephen McArdle, states that “This partnership with Sportradar advances our commitment to statistics as a storytelling tool.”

By providing fans with instant coverage to games, data fans will have the chance to immerse themselves fully in the game more than ever before.

Fans that are involved in an NHL fantasy league will be especially happy. As Sportradar begins to make this data available to the public, dedicated fantasy players will have a better chance at winning their leagues.

Earlier Steve Byrd, chief commercial officer at Sportradar, told reporters that “The NHL’s rich content is a tremendous addition to the Sportradar portfolio. Not only will we provide the fastest NHL data directly from the rink, but our development team will use this data within a dynamic new suite of visual products and applications that will enhance the hockey experience for fans.”

As this partnership begins, it will be interesting to see what new types of viewing products and applications become available to NHL fans.
