2018 NFL Division Odds: AFC and NFC Betting Futures
The 2018 NFL regular season kicks off exactly one month from today, when the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons – who lost the previous year’s Super Bowl 51 in agonizing fashion.
Both teams squared off against the vaunted New England Patriots with the Lombardi Trophy on the line, but before reaching the NFL’s grandest stage, all three won their respective divisions.
Division winners are guaranteed the right to host a home game when the postseason arrives, but more importantly, ancient rivalries are settled on an annual basis. With that in mind, many football fans who enjoy the futures betting market like to try their hand at handicapping NFL divisional races.
And courtesy of online sportsbook Bovada you can find the latest odds on all 32 teams competing to claim one of the league’s eight divisional titles.
2018 NFL Division Odds: AFC Betting Futures
Odds to Win AFC East
|Team||Odds to Win AFC East|
|New England Patriots||-800|
|New York Jets||+1500|
Since 2003, the Patriots have won the AFC East an astounding 14 of 15 times. The only other division winner during that span was the Dolphins in 2008, and that was only because Tom Brady went down for the year in the Pats’ season opener. At the age of 41, Brady will be back in the fold for 2018, seeking his sixth Super Bowl victory – and his Patriots are massive (-800) favorites to win yet another division title along with being favorites on the Super Bowl 53 odds. The Dolphins have QB Ryan Tannehill returning from injury, so they lead the also-rans at (+1100), with the Bills and Jets bringing up the rear.
Odds to Win AFC North
|Team||Odds to Win AFC North|
The AFC North offers a bit more variety for bettors, but the Steelers (-280) have still taken the title in three out of the last four years, and their core of Big Ben, Bell, and Brown remains intact. The Ravens (+400) provide the only legitimate competition, as QB Joe Flacco looks to prove his “elite” status with a second Super Bowl victory. As for the Bengals (+1000) and Browns (+1200), the less said, the better.
Odds to Win AFC South
|Team||Odds to Win AFC South|
The Jaguars (+170) shocked the football world last year by winning the AFC South, and all of that young talent returns with a year’s worth of experience to boot. But if not for a season-ending injury to emerging superstar QB Deshaun Watson, it very well could’ve been the Texans (+190) wearing Cinderella’s slipper last postseason.
Odds to Win AFC West
|Team||Odds to Win AFC West|
|Los Angeles Chargers||+155|
|Kansas City Chiefs||+260|
This was the Chiefs’ territory last year, but the departure of QB Alex Smith to Washington leaves the team in (+260) limbo. One veteran signal-caller’s loss is another’s gain though, so Philip Rivers will look to lead the Chargers (+260) to their first division title in nine seasons.
2018 NFL Division Odds: NFC Betting Futures
Odds to Win NFC East
|Team||Odds to Win NFC East|
|New York Giants||+600|
When you’re the defending Super Bowl champions, you should be big favorites to win the division next time around, and the Eagles (-165) are exactly that. Philadelphia also sits among the leaders on the 2018 NFL season win totals at an OVER/UNDER line of 10.5. Only the Cowboys (+350) pose a serious threat in the oddsmakers’ eyes, but Dallas will need QB Dak Prescott to emerge from his sophomore slump to get over the hump.
Odds to Win NFC North
|Team||Odds to Win NFC North|
|Green Bay Packers||+150|
In Week 6 last year, Vikings LB Anthony Barr leveled Packers superstar QB Aaron Rodgers, ending the latter’s season altogether. The big hit, and its aftermath, propelled the Vikes (+115) to a division title, but Rodgers’ return immediately makes the Pack (+150) a close second in the NFC North race.
Odds to Win NFC South
|Team||Odds to Win NFC South|
|New Orleans Saints||+155|
|Tampa Bay Buccaneers||+950|
The NFL’s best division last year sent three 10+ win teams through to the postseason tournament. Fittingly enough, that trio returns in a closely bunched pack, with the Saints (+155), Falcons (+185), and Panthers (+275) each offering better than 3 to 1 on a division title.
Odds to Win NFC West
|Team||Odds to Win NFC West|
|Los Angeles Rams||-135|
|San Francisco 49ers||+280|
Following a breakout season in 2017, the Rams return as major (-135) favorites for a second straight NFC West win. But bettors shouldn’t sleep on the 49ers (+280), who surged in the second half behind newly acquired QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
