Will Tiger Woods Play in 2022 Odds

After his scary car accident, golf fans are left wondering when will Tiger Woods play next? The 15-time major champion crashed his SUV on the morning of February 23, 2021 outside Los Angeles. Woods broke both legs and underwent a significant surgical procedure to repair his lower right leg. Though he was speeding, police declined to investigate whether Woods was impaired. He’s now crutching around during his recovery at home in Jupiter, Florida while the PGA Tour moves on without him.

Tiger Woods’ future will be determined by how his recovery proceeds. His injuries certainly may be career threatening. However, Bovada released odds for what would be a remarkable comeback.

Will Tiger Woods Play a Tournament in 2022 (Even)?

The first Tiger Woods future bet is whether he plays at all next year. For now, the odds are even money, making it a 50/50 proposition. Only official PGA Tour events count for this bet. Because he cannot qualify for the Tour Championship without playing, the last scheduled event is the BMW Championship in late August 2022. That gives Tiger over a year before he has to return to golf.

However, at 45 years old, bouncing back from his leg injuries will not be easy. It took Tiger almost a full year to recover from back surgery in 2017. He has now had five microdiscectomy surgeries and was still recovering from his last one before the car accident.

Tiger’s back trouble could complicate his progress from leg surgery. If he overcompensates for weakness in his legs it may lead to more back procedures. Any additional operation would likely put his entire 2022 season in jeopardy.

Can He Play a Major in 2022 (+200)?

With the line for him playing at all listed as even, the chance he makes it back for a Major is less likely. Due to the calendar, oddsmakers set the line for a Tiger appearance in a 2022 Major at +200.

Old Course St. Andrews

St. Andrews Old Course

The final scheduled Major in 2022 is The Open Championship from July 14 through 17. Tiger may have extra incentive to appear, as this 150th Open edition will be held at St. Andrews. A noted historian of the game, Woods surely understands the significance of an Old Course anniversary.

The three-time Claret Jug winner has already conquered St. Andrews twice. It would be fitting for him to return in time to stroll the hallowed Scottish grounds. But travel time and cold weather are both factors against him crossing the pond. Hence the two to one odds on this Tiger Woods future bet.

Will Tiger Woods Play The Masters in 2022 (+300)?

The 2022 Masters runs from April 7 to April 10 at Augusta National Golf Club. That leaves Tiger Woods with less than a year to get up to speed. For the three fewer months of recovery time compared to the British Open, oddsmakers bumped the line to +300.

The Masters clearly holds a special place in Tiger Woods heart. It likely crushed him to miss the 2021 edition as the world began returning to normal. The five-time Green Jacket winner relishes the place Augusta holds in the golf world. However, it is difficult to envision him being in tournament shape less than 14 months after wrecking his lower leg.

Tiger Woods to Win the 2022 Masters (+4000)

Finally, the longshot Tiger Woods odds. There is no doubt Tiger is a legendary competitor. Simply appearing without being in condition to win is not in his playbook. Suffice to say, if he considers himself healthy enough to start a tournament, he believes he is good enough to win that weekend. He is also a ratings darling, who Augusta will go out of its way to accommodate.

But his performance at the bizarro-2020 Masters in November left a lot to be desired. Despite his intimate understanding of Augusta’s nuances, he made 10 at the par-3 12th and carded a final round 76. That all occurred prior to his latest back surgery and subsequent life-threatening accident. Even if he returns to full health, can he ever again reach the lofty heights of Masters Champion?

Tiger Woods broke sportsbooks before with his out-of-nowhere 2019 Masters victory. Here’s to hoping his health does not prevent him from continuing his quest to match Jack’s 18 Majors.
