Caesars and 888 Launch New Jersey’s Sixth and Seventh Online Sportsbooks

Bettors in the Garden State now have seven online sportsbooks to choose from, following recent launches by Caesars Entertainment and 888 Holdings.

New Jersey legalized sports betting – both through brick and mortar sportsbooks and online / mobile apps – on June 14, one month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to repeal a federal ban (outside of Nevada) on the industry.

Several brick and mortar sportsbooks opened immediately afterward, but it would take until August 6 for the daily fantasy sports (DFS) kingpin DraftKings to launch New Jersey’s first online / mobile bet shop.

From there, however, the floodgates have opened, as six more entrants to the marketplace have taken their first online wagers since then – culminating with the launches of Caesars Casino & Sports app and 888 Sport NJ.

New Jersey’s seven operational online sportsbooks, complete with launch dates, can be found below:

  • DraftKings (August 6)
  • PlayMGM (August 22)
  • Play SugarHouse (August 23)
  • William Hill (September 1)
  • FanDuel (September 1)
  • Caesars (September 6)
  • 888 Holdings (September 10)

Caesars Mobile Betting App Goes Live in Time for NFL Football

The Caesars Casino & Sports app launched on September 6 to coincide with the opening game of the 2018 NFL regular season. That Thursday Night Football contest pitted the Philadelphia Eagles – regional darlings and defending Super Bowl champions – against the Atlanta Falcons, so the timing was certain fortuitous for Caesars.

The app is available in the Apple app store for iOS users, and via direct download through the CaesarsCasino.com website.

Mark Frissora – chief executive officer and president of Caesars Entertainment – offered the following comments on the mobile betting app in a company press release:

“Since New Jersey decided to allow mobile sports betting, we have been working diligently to create the most engaging and fun mobile platform which provides users with the ability to place bets on their favorite sporting events.

This launch further solidifies our investment into this exciting space.”

Frissora also confirmed that bettors enrolled with the Total Rewards program – the Player’s Club which links Caesars properties nationwide – can earn rewards points through their online wagers:

“Players have the opportunity to earn and redeem rewards points through our Total Rewards loyalty program, which they can redeem for memorable experiences inside our world-class resorts.”

888 Sport NJ Goes Live Four Days Later

In the early hours of September 10, 888 Holdings made it a smooth seven for New Jersey’s online sportsbook selection.

The 888 Sport NJ platform – which operates under the interactive gaming license held by Caesars Entertainment – differentiates itself from competitors by bringing the European bet shop’s full scope of sports and markets.

The state’s other apps average 10 betting markets, while 888 Sport NJ brings 28 markets – including European soccer leagues, motorsports, and eSports – to New Jersey bettors.

Itai Frieberger – chief executive officer of 888 Holdings – issued a statement addressing the company’s expanded presence in the American market via New Jersey and other states where online gaming has been legalized and regulated:

“The launch of 888sport.com in New Jersey is a major milestone for the company in our ongoing expansion across the regulated US online gaming market and provides 888 with a unique and truly multi-product proposition in what is currently the largest regulated US state.

888 has been committed to developing its position in the US since launching in Nevada, the first regulated US state, nearly six years ago and today we are the only operator with a presence in all three regulated US states.

The group remains exceptionally well positioned to capture the potentially significant future growth opportunities as new regulation allows.”
