While the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 4-0 shutout over the New Jersey Devils in the team’s home opener on Wednesday night, fans were treated to the league’s first dedicated sports betting lounges.
Wells Fargo Center is now home to a pair of sports lounges, both of which are sponsored and operated by the PlaySugarHouse.com online / mobile sportsbook.
PlaySugarHouse.com is a property of Rush Street Interactive, a subsidiary of the Illinois-based Rush Street Gaming which owns the SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia. Rush Street Gaming also owns Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, and the company recently announced that SugarHouse Casino would be rebranded as Rivers Casino Philadelphia.
In a press release issued to celebrate the arrival of the arena’s new sports betting lounges, Valerie Camillo – who serves as president of business operations for the Flyers and Wells Fargo Center – referenced the imminent rebranding:
“We are thrilled to launch our partnership with SugarHouse, soon to be Rivers Casino and BetRivers.com, through these sport lounges which will undoubtedly elevate the game day experience at the Wells Fargo Center.
Both spaces are stunning additions to what has already been the most transformative phase of our renovation project and we know our fans will be delighted with the design and experience.”
Wells Fargo Center is also home to the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, so sports fans can enjoy the lounges whenever hockey and basketball games – along with concerts and other events – are held there. The addition of sports betting lounges was made as part of Wells Fargo Center’s ambitious $265 million renovation project known as “Transformation 2020.”
PlaySugarHouse.com became the first online / mobile sportsbook to go live in Pennsylvania back in June of this year.
In the press release, Rivers Casino Philadelphia general manager Rob Long positioned the city’s dual sports arena as an extension of his venue’s in-house sportsbook slated to open in October:
“The Wells Fargo Center will be Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s home away from home.
When fans walk into the Wells Fargo Center and the sports lounges, they’ll feel the same excitement and comfort that will be available at the casino when our new state-of-the-art in-casino sportsbook is unveiled later this month.”
The larger of the two sports betting hotspots is a nearly 6,500-square-foot venue known as the BetRivers.com Sports Lounge.
Fans can find the BetRivers.com Sports Lounge – which has been outfitted with dozens of large screens televising various sporting events and displaying betting odds – on the arena’s top level. The venue also faces the arena’s main bowl, offering guests a full view of the live action taking place below.
The 5,680-square-foot Rivers Casino Philadelphia Sports Lounge can be found on the south end of the arena’s main concourse.
While the design team at DMAC Architecture modelled the lounges after modern sportsbooks, patrons won’t be able to place any physical wagers onsite. Instead, roving ambassadors are on hand to assist guests with the registration process required to sign up for a PlaySugarHouse.com / BetRivers.com online / mobile sportsbook account.
Once the account has been set up, bettors can use their smartphone or another internet-connected device to place wagers in real time.
Mattias Stetz, the chief operating officer of Rush Street Interactive, used his statement to invite sports fans to experience something new on their next trip to Wells Fargo Center:
“We can’t wait for Philadelphia sports fans to experience these new sports lounges.
We know how passionate this city is when it comes to sports and we took great care to make sure these lounges have everything guests need to watch and get in on the action as it’s happening.”
