GGPoker to Award $100 Million in May Via WSOP Super Circuit Online Series

The WSOP Super Circuit Online Series with GGPoker is poker’s unique answer to a worldwide pandemic—When the World Series of Poker (WSOP) abruptly cancelled its remaining 2019-20 Circuit (WSOP-C) series schedule last month – including several international events held overseas – poker players all over wondered whether their chance to chase gold rings and glory had been taken too.GGPoker WSOP Super Circuit Online

But while the ongoing coronavirus outbreak domestically and abroad has forced brick and mortar casinos to close their doors, online operators like GGPoker have stepped up to fill the void.

In conjunction with WSOP.com, the global-facing GGPoker platform is set to host its first ever WSOP Super Circuit Online Series throughout the month of May.

Beginning on May 3 and running through May 31, the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series on GG Poker – which doesn’t serve the American market as of yet – will host 595 tournaments ranging from micro-stakes to high-roller. And within that sprawling four-week schedule, 18 tournaments will be branded official WSOP-C events, which means the eventual winner will add a gold Circuit ring to their trophy case along with the cash.

As for the cash up for grabs, GGPoker and the WSOP have collaborated to create the world’s largest online poker tournament series in terms of guaranteed prize pools.

All told, the 595 events on tap will combine to pay out $100 million in guaranteed prizes – easily exceeding the previous record of $85 million set by PokerStars with its ongoing 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

Organizers and Sponsors Speak Out on Record-Setting Online Series

In a joint press release issued earlier this month, Jean-Christophe Antoine – who serves as head of the GGPoker network – celebrated his site’s new marriage with the WSOP:

“I’m thrilled to reveal that GGPoker will be hosting the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series in partnership with World Series of Poker.

A GGPoker and WSOP partnership brings together two like-minded global organizations, and I can’t wait to see GGPoker players competing for WSOP Circuit rings online!”

WSOP executive director Ty Stewart followed suit by praising GGPoker as the perfect partner to replace the cancelled WSOP-C live schedule:

“We’re thrilled to partner with an operator on the rise who is both aggressive and passionate about growing poker engagement around the world.

It was unfortunate that we were forced to cancel so many offline WSOP Circuit events this Spring, but with vast reach GGPoker plans to dwarf the prize pools of the suspended events all at once in one truly Super WSOP Circuit.”

And six-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu – who inked a sponsorship deal to become an official GGPoker ambassador in November of last year – added the following comments about his new partner’s plans for May:

“I give credit to the WSOP for bringing the circuit online during these trying times. Winning a circuit ring is a great honor. Online players will love the experience of chasing rings at GGPoker.”GGPoker WSOP Super Circuit Online, wsop logo

Schedule Offers 18 Official Circuit Ring Events and $100 Million in Prizes

The action kicks off on May 3 with WSOP-C Ring Event #1, which costs $1,111 to enter and boasts a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

Fittingly for the unusual circumstances – the WSOP proper in Las Vegas was postponed for the first time in 51 years – organizers will not collect a penny in “rake” from the $111 add-on fee.

Instead, that money will be donated entirely to Nevada’s coronavirus task force, which states its mission as “assist(ing) with meeting the monumental and continued need for personal protective equipment and medical supplies for our medical community and first responders.”

For players backed by smaller bankrolls, WSOP-C Ring Event #2 can be entered on the same day for just $50, and the tournament comes with a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The highest guarantee on tap occurs on May 17 in WSOP-C Ring Event #8, the High-Roller Championship with a $25,000 buy-in and a $10 million initial prize pool.

And on May 31, WSOP-C Ring Event #17 caps things off with a $1,000 buy-in tournament offering a $500,000 guarantee.

For all official Circuit ring events, players can earn points towards the Global Casino Championship, an invitational tournament designed to reward the WSOP-C’s top performers.
