- The Chiefs, Ravens, Saints and 49ers are favored to win most games
- Bovada believes Tom Brady's Buccaneers can win 10-or-more games
- Could Aaron Rodgers' Packers regress to an 8-8 team?
Life, death, taxes and A.J. Green injuring himself come August. Yes, the training camp tradition unlike any other continued earlier this week when the Bengals receiver sat out most of practice due to a hamstring injury. Coach Zac Taylor describe the move as precautionary, but anybody who follows the NFL and frequents online sportsbooks during the season knows we’ve seen Green star in this movie before. Remember, Cincinnati heads into the 2020 regular season with high hopes for their No. 1 Draft pick and franchise quarterback Joe Burrows. So, it would be nice if the franchise trigger could toss to the – when healthy – franchise receiver. The crew over at Bovada sportsbook have pegged the Bengals with a 2020 win total of OVER/UNDER 5.5 wins, among the lowest threshold in the league. However, after winning only two games all of 2019, a five-to-six win campaign would be embraced as an improvement so long as Burrows develops throughout the year.

As of now, only four teams possess double-digit win total odds. The reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs are pegged at O/U 11.5 wins, while expectations are high that Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens win 12-or-more games, too. In the NFC, Drew Brees’ return means the Saints are the favorites to win the NFC South and win 10-or-more games again despite the arrival of Tom Brady down in Tampa Bay. The NFC champs, San Francisco, were on the cusp of winning the Lombardi Trophy and though they fell short against the Chiefs, Bovada’s odds gurus expect them to win double digit games in a competitive NFC West.
Some other teams of note:
The Philip Rivers’ era begins in Indianapolis this season and bookmakers believe the soft AFC South provides an opportunity for the veteran signal caller to lead the Colts to a 9-win season. At -200 OVER 9 wins, the book believes there’s a good chance Indy bounces back from a 7-win 2019 campaign.
The aforementioned Tommy Bay Buccaneers’ expectations – and 9.5 win total odds – have soared since Mr. Brady supplanted Jameis Winston at quarterback. The trio of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski might be the best receiving corps Brady had enjoyed at any one point in his career. It’ll be interesting to see how his deep ball looks after checking down to Julian Edelman the better part of the past 2-3 seasons.
Many pundits believe Russell Wilson could be in line for a trip back to the Super Bowl and/or Most Valuable Player honors if he keeps balling out as he has the past few years. Despite sharing divisional real estate with the 49ers, Wilson’s ‘Hawks are favored to win more than 9.5 games this year.
And what’s an NFL win total preview without a mention of America’s Team. The Dallas Cowboys’ 9.5 win total may appear somewhat lofty considering the 8-8 mark of a season ago. However, keep in mind that both the Washington Football Team and New York Giants are in the midst of a franchise rebuild, which could pad their record with four wins off the jump. Though we all know nothing is given in the NFL, Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliott should be able to contend for the NFC East along with the Eagles.
And just in case NFL win totals don’t wet the whistle, the fine folks over at Bovada also cooked up some odds on if certain NFL players would be fined for breaking coronavirus / pandemic protocol during the regular season:
- DeSean Jackson: Yes (+325) | No (-650)
- Odell Beckham: Yes (+325) | No (-550)
- Ezekiel Elliott: Yes (+240) | No (-380)
- Tom Brady: Yes (+525) | No (-950)
- Dak Prescott: Yes (+250) | No (-450)
