Breaking Down the Action:

  • What’s on Offer from ACR?

Back in 2003, the arrival of Chris Moneymaker onto the poker scene was a moment in time. Vitally important to the poker industry 18 years on, it is still referred to as ‘The Moneymaker Effect’.

America’s Cardroom Pitches for a New Hero

Today, almost two decades after the former accountant turned an $86 poker satellite on PokerStars into $2.5 million in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Moneymaker Effect continues to inspire others to emulate the man himself. As Moneymaker said at the time, “Staying at home in front of a computer screen could be more profitable than going to work.”

In an age of Zoom calls and meetings held across bandwidth rather than the office floor, that’s never been more common. Chris Moneymaker’s successor in terms of going from zero to hero would be the next hot property in the poker world from a marketing standpoint. America’s Cardroom are doing what they can to make sure they badge up the new Moneymaker with their latest professional recruit.

What’s on Offer from ACR?

Moneymaker obtained one of the most lucrative sponsorship packages in the world in 2003, but it wasn’t only cold hard cash. Moneymaker’s legacy today as one of the best sponsored players of all-time was one he cultivated over time. Time and again, he showed up and displaying his poker personality in every event, no matter how big or small.

‘The Moneymaker Effect’ was a ‘rags to riches’ story that cost an initial outlay of $86 for a single poker satellite. Online poker has returned to six U.S. states and is on the rise. Many eligible players will be checking how to play poker online in the U.S. in order to take part.

The sponsorship package on offer is worth a whopping $105,000, and that breaks down as $25,000 in cash, $40,000 in live tournament buy-ins and $40,000 in online tournament entries too.

Each event in the series costs just a single cent to play, so it really is a tournament series that offers riches that are truly open to anyone, rags and all.

When Can You Win Your Way to Glory?

These tournaments are on offer at America’s Cardroom only, with 12 weeks of events taking place between Monday April 12th and Sunday July 4th, Independence Day. There’s no restriction to the number of times you can enter, with players able to play every event on the schedule.

The top 100 players in each tournament will receive points towards the weekly leaderboard and at the end of each week, players count their top five tournament finishes towards their weekly point total. At that point, the leaderboard resets and each of the 12 weeks will see the top 30 players progress to a final showdown tournament.

That showdown begins a week after the series concludes on 11th July. Who knows, you could even be taking on your online nemesis in the event, just like Phil Hellmuth will be doing later this month when he faces Daniel Negreanu.

The final showdown takes place across three Sundays, the 11th, 18th and 25th of July, and if you’re yet to read our online poker room reviews and give America’s Cardroom a try, then you can do so right here.
