On October 28, GGPoker announced they broke the online poker record from the Guinness World Records™ for the biggest prize pool in an online poker tournament. The event attracted 5802 entries, which generated a $27,559,500 pool for the WSOP Event 77: $5,000 Main Event at GGPoker.

The $5,000 Main Event went on for 150 hours, 9 minutes and 13 seconds, until the last hand. Players from Day 1 and had starting flights combined with Day 2 of the tournament. The field shrunk from over 1,000 players to only 38 and it obviously paid off—Later, players competed for three days, with a player from Bulgaria, Stoyan Madanzhiev winning the tournament’s final hand and the winnig share of the prize pool. The $27,559,500 prize pool was shared between the top tournie finishers, with each player (728 in total) winning a $11,834 payout.

This is Madanzhiev’s first WSOP bracelet, and dare we say, the strongest first-win in any WSOP event with a $3,904,685 payout, the biggest individual payout awarded in not just the WSOP, but any online poker tournament.

Head of Poker Operations at GGPoker, Steve Preiss says, “This Guinness World Records title was on our radar from the very beginning…Players and fans of poker expect nothing less than record-breaking prizes when it comes to the World Series of Poker, and GGPoker delivered.”

The WSOP was a 54-gold bracelet tournament event, hosted online due to restrictions from the Covid-19 pandemic. The tournament held a $25 million guarantee, which meant it would achieve the Guinness World record with or without a strong player-presence—The event ended up covering 10% all while breaking the online poker record for biggest payout.

“Breaking a Guinness World Records title shows what happens when you combine GGPoker’s amazing platform with the World Series of Poker brand,” said Ty Stewart, WSOP Director. “This will be a tough record to beat.”
