Online / Mobile Sports Betting Goes Live in Indiana

The Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg was the first resort in Indiana to open a sportsbook.

The latest state to launch legal sports betting just joined the list of regulated markets offering online / mobile access, after two sportsbook apps went live in Indiana this week.

Rush Street Interactive kicked off the action on October 3 by launching BetRivers.com, an online / mobile sportsbook platform affiliated with the French Lick Casino.

Shortly thereafter on the same day, the DraftKings Sportsbook app went live across the Hoosier State, with the daily fantasy sports (DFS) giant operating under the Penn National Gaming-owned Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago.

Indiana legalized sports betting back on May 8 of this year, followed by Ameristar East Chicago in the Windy City suburb of Lawrenceburg becoming the state’s first brick and mortar bet shop to open for business on September 1 .

Since then, 12 more land-based sportsbooks have sprung up throughout Indiana, which became the 12th state to launch regulated sports wagering after the U.S. Supreme Court repealed a federal ban on the industry outside of Nevada in May of last year.

BetRivers.com Makes Indiana its Fourth Online / Mobile Market

With the launch of BetRivers.com, Indiana became the sixth state – joining New Jersey, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Iowa – to offer sanctioned online / mobile sports betting.

In a press release issued by the Illinois-based Rush Street Interactive – a subsidiary of Rush Street Gaming, which operates land-based Rivers Casino venues in four states – the company’s president Richard Schwartz pointed to the fortuitous timing of BetRivers’com:

“What better time to launch than in the height of football season, the start of baseball playoffs and just before basketball returns?

We know our players are really going to appreciate the convenience of being able to place wagers online anywhere in Indiana, adding to the excitement of these sporting events.

Our experience and success in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York allows us to zero-in on what players want – a massive range of sports betting options, through reliable and scalable technology, with responsive customer service, and fast payouts.”

With brick and mortar Rivers Casino venues located in Pennsylvania and New York, Rush Street Interactive operates online / mobile sportsbooks in those states as well, along with New Jersey. Parent company Rush Street Gaming also operates a Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Illinois, which is located less than 50 miles from the Indiana border.

In his statement, Schwartz pointed to that regional connection as a prime reason for Rush Street Interactive to enter the Indiana online / mobile sportsbook arena:

“We are excited to make history in the state of Indiana. As a Chicago-based business and affiliate of the trusted and market leading Rivers Casino in Illinois, we are proud to expand our trust into Indiana.

We are thankful for the Indiana Gaming Commission giving Rush Street Interactive their vote of confidence and authorizing us to launch online sports betting in the state.

We look forward to working together with French Lick to continue our great partnership.”

DraftKings Adds Fourth Online / Mobile Market in Hoosier State

Within hours of BetRivers.com going live, Indiana’s second online / mobile sportsbook commenced operations when the DraftKings Sportsbook app launched.

In a press release, DraftKings’ co-founder chief revenue officer Matt Kalish celebrated the company’s entrance into a fourth regulated American market:

“DraftKings could not be more thrilled to expand our national reach as states continue to open the market for legalized sports betting.

Since our sportsbook product launched in 2018, we have made it our number-one priority to provide sports fans with a responsible place to wager on a superior and technologically advanced sports-betting platform.

With Indiana becoming the latest state to offer legalized online and mobile sports betting, we are excited to provide the top-rated sportsbook app to some of the nation’s most passionate and dedicated sports fans.”

The DraftKings Sportsbook online / mobile app is also offered in New Jersey, West Virginia, and Iowa.
