The Belmont Stakes betting odds are live for the 2022 race at Elmont, NY, and here at Gamble Online we’ve got you covered when it comes to placing those horse racing bets. This is the last of US Horse Racing’s triple crown events, which also include the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

There will be no Triple Crown winner this year after Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby, and Early Voting stormed to victory in the Preakness. A number of trainers have also withdrawn their horses for the Belmont, which means sports betting sites are hurriedly shifting their horse racing odds on who will win here.

If you’re new to horse racing betting, then the Belmont is the perfect race to get started. Read on for more info on how to bet on horse racing, the best odds Belmont Stakes sites are offering, and the latest news from New York!

Best Racebooks for Belmont Stakes Odds

Here are the best racebooks where you can find Belmont Stakes odds.

Belmont Stakes Final Odds

The Belmont Stakes features between eight and 13 horses, although usually it’s 10 that go into the gates at Elmont. The exact number for 2024 was confirmed as eight during the Belmont post position draw, which took place in the week leading up to the big race.

The Belmont is smaller than the Kentucky Derby, where 20 horses run at Churchill Downs. This usually means the horse racing odds are more closely bunched together, as even the outsider has a greater chance of winning.

Selecting a Belmont Stakes winner isn’t easy. There are scores of variables that factor into this race – the longest of the Triple Crown events. At 1 ½ miles, it’s a long racetrack the horses must bolt around and the Belmont usually favors durable runners. We won’t know the exact horses and runners for a few days yet, but until then here are the latest futures markets…

Horse Belmont Stakes Odds Trainer Post Position Winning Position
Mo Donegal +250 Todd Pletcher 6 N/A
We The People +200 Rodolphe Brisset 1 N/A

The morning line odds are now live following the Belmont post position draw. It means horse racing betting sites now have their most accurate odds, as they know exactly which horses are competing Saturday!

How To Qualify For The Belmont Stakes

Horses qualifying for the Belmont Stakes can’t just arrive on race day and trot into the starting gate. There is basic criteria for horses that focuses primarily on age. the Belmont Stakes – just like the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes – is restricted to horses aged three years old . This means horses get one chance to win the Triple Crown.

To qualify, horses must accumulate points throughout the season in order to prove themselves worthy of competing in the Triple Crown stakes races. Their inclusion in the Kentucky Derby will give them the chance to race in the Preakness and then the Belmont Stakes. If a horse backs out, they can be replaced by another on the points list.

Belmont Stakes 2022 News

Rich Strike Returns From Preakness Rest

Rich Strike – the shock winner at Churchill Downs that rumbled the Kentucky Derby betting odds – returns for the Belmont after being rested from running in the Preakness. There was hope Rich Strike would be pushed for a Triple Crown attempt, but his trainer Eric Reed rightly kept the horse in the stable so they could assess what to do next with their surprise champion.

The answer? Run him in the Belmont. Should Rich Strike win here, his victory would still go down as something of a miracle. He only qualified for the Derby after another horse withdrew, and is by no means the fastest horse in this pack.

Reed says the horses were too hot for the Preakness and needed to “settle down and do things in a relaxed manner” before heading to Elmont. His odds have come in to +350 and they could get even shorter if bettors throw their dollars at this unlikely superstar.

Mo Donegal and Nest in Top Form

Another two horses that bypassed the Preakness were Todd A. Pletcher’s runners, Mo Donegal and Nest. The former was a fifth-placed finish at the Kentucky Derby, while the latter is finally ready to run in one of the Triple Crown events.

The aim for Pletcher is to have at least one horse crossing the post first at Belmont Park. Both horses are hitting the half-mile point at 50 seconds and Pletcher’s New York-based assistant Byron Hughes said: “They both were moving well and galloped out well. They were on even terms throughout and we were happy with the breeze.”

Mo Donegal is the second favorite in the Belmont Stakes betting odds, having seen his odds widen following the post position draw.

No Early Voting This Year

Sadly for horse racing betting fans, the sight of Preakness champion Early Voting battling for the win at Belmont Park won’t be had. Early Voting’s trainer Dave Brown says the horse, who rumbled Epicenter in the second of the Triple Crown events, isn’t slated for New York.

“He’s only run four times and he’s done everything we asked him to do,” Brown said. “We’ll evaluate later on and pick a race. We want to set him up for what lies ahead.”

It appears as though Early Voting will be angled toward the Travers Stakes, with a potential tilt at the Breeders’ Cup later this year.

Horse Qualification

The 2022 Belmont Stakes is open to horses aged three years old and is run at Elmont Park, New York. The race, run at a one-and-a-half mile distance, is the longest of the Triple Crown races.

Top Horses By Belmont Stakes Odds

Here are the top horses for the 2022 Belmont Stakes.

Mo Donegal

+250

Mo Donegal is the second favorite to win the Belmont Stakes thanks to his strong run in the Kentucky Derby. He has also won two stakes races in his career – both at Aqueduct. Irad Ortiz Jr. is likely to ride Mo Donegal, and the jockey is well versed a winning Triple Crown races. It’s no wonder this horse is one of the frontrunners in the racing odds.

We The People

+200

A horse that disappointed in the Arkansas Derby, We The People is expected to fare better here and may well carry low weight. His odds have been slashed to favorite after being drawn on the rail for the Preakness. We The People crushed May’s Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park by 10 ½ lengths from Golden Glider – and it is that run which secures his spot in the Preakness. Something of an unknown with just three career runs, We The People is a risky wager at these odds.

Rich Strike

+350

Rarely does the Kentucky Derby winner have such high odds for the Belmont but Rich Strike is no ordinary horse. His +8000 win at Churchill Downs was the second-biggest shock in history. The bookies are tentative about backing him so long again – but punters aren’t snapping him up at ultra-low odds. His price could well fluctuate between now and race day.

Creative Minister

+600

Two race wins this year but neither of them at grade level, Creative Minister secured a show finish in the Preakness Stakes. That was an impressive run as he held off Secret Oath to end in the paying positions. But can he do something similar again? Perhaps. Creative Minister is currently turning heads as a viable show bet and his odds are falling by the day.

Nest

+800

Todd A. Pletcher’s ‘other’ horse, Nest could run well here if she continues her training form alongside Mo Donegal. She won the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in April and placed behind Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks. A strong runner, Nest could be the first filly since Rags to Riches in 2007 to win the Belmont.

Barber Road

+1000

Stuck on the outside gate for the Belmont, there’s not much expectation for Barber Road to shine here. He hasn’t raced since finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby and hasn’t won any of his six career races. It begs the question why his owners are gambling again with another stakes race entry fee.

Picks for the Belmont Stakes 2024

We’re still a few days away from the race but it’s evident that bettors are focusing on Mo Donegal (+250). The fifth-place runner at the Kentucky Derby is looking sharp after avoiding the Preakness and should be set for a big run here. Being in Gate 6 isn’t the best post position, which is why the Mo Donegal odds rose slightly off the back of the draw.

Nest (+800) is a decent outside shout, especially as she is drawn third. Granted, Nest isn’t near stablemate Mo Donegal but both have impressed on this 1 ½ mile racetrack, and what a sight it would be if they were battling it out for the win down the home straight.

The big outside pick is certainly Creative Minister (+600) for a sure-fire wager on a Show finish. He could deliver a Rich Strike-style assault on the paying places after a reasonably impressive summer.

As for Rich Strike, it’s anyone’s guess where he will finish!

Belmont Stakes Traditions

The Kentucky Derby and the Preakness States have their time-honored traditions. Of course, the Belmont Stakes has theirs as well.

Frank Sinatra speaks

Playing “New York, New York”

Churchill Downs has “My Old Kentucky Home”, Pimlico Race Course has “Maryland, My Maryland” and the Elmont Park crowd concludes the Triple Crown by singing “New York, New York” before the start of the Belmont Stakes. Written in 1977 for the movie New York, New York the song has become an annual feature of the Belmont Stakes pre-race spectacle and is not to be missed.

The Belmont Trophy

A Tiffany-made silver bowl standing just 18 inches high, the Belmont Trophy is one of the most iconic trophies in sports. The horse standing atop the cover is Fenian, who won the third Belmont Stakes in 1869. Below are three horses representing the three thoroughbreds of racing: Herod, Matchem and Eclipse. Winning owners have kept the trophy for a year ever since 1926.

Blanket of White Carnations

Around 700 carnations are used to make the 40-pound blanket of white flowers that are presented to the winning horse and jockey moments after they cross the post. The flowers are glued into a velvet cloth and is started only on race day. It takes NYRA florist Tony Green and his team around five hours to complete.

The official drink of the race weekend is the Belmont Jewel, a refreshing bourbon-based cocktail that is bound to get you in the mood for racing. The alcohol is Woodford Reserved Kentucky Straight Bourbon and is mixed with lemonade, pomegranate juice, orange zest and ice. The drink was created by mixologist Drew Revella in 2012 and takes its name from the blanket of white carnations awarded to the race winner

Painted Cast Irons

In 1997 a new tradition began at Elmont Park, where an artist will paint the colors of the winning jockey on one of the large cast iron horses that stand in the grounds. Should the horse be a Triple Crown winner the cast iron statue is moved to a permanent position within the Triple Crown ring itself.
