2023 MLB Season Props: Yankees Lead Favorites As Last Team To Lose

Which team will be the last to lose in the 2023 MLB season?

Sports

The start of the 2023 Major League Baseball season is March 30, and in a rarity, all 30 teams are scheduled in action – barring postponement, it will be the first time since 1968 that every MLB team opens on the same day. There are a lot of outdoor games in cold-weather citie,s so a postponement is very possible. As an aside, why can’t MLB figure out a way to have the first two weeks or so all be played in warm-weather cities or at teams with domed stadiums?

Bovada, one of the top online sportsbooks, has an interesting prop on which team is the last to lose with the New York Yankees as +900 favorites at the best sports betting sites. The Yanks are very good, but also have been bitten by the injury bug this spring with starting pitchers Frankie Montas and Carlos Rodon out to start the year, as well as center fielder Harrison Bader.

New York opens with a three-game series at home against the San Francisco Giants, and then hosts the reigning National League champion Philadelphia Phillies for three games, although the Phils will be without two-time NL MVP Bryce Harper as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. New York’s first road game is April 6 at rising Baltimore.

Could Rays Repeat On Prop?

The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays are all +950 on this MLB betting prop. LA opens with four at home vs. Arizona and then two at Dodger Stadium against Colorado, so a 6-0 start seems very doable. The Padres, who will be without perennial MVP candidate Fernando Tatis Jr. for the first few weeks due to suspension, host Colorado for four and then Arizona for two before a trip to Atlanta.

Tampa Bay hosts Detroit for three, and then visits Washington for three – two bad teams in 2022. The Rays were the last team to lose in 2022, but made it only to the fourth game before that defeat.

The longshot on this prop is Colorado at +20000. If you are wondering, the longest winning streak to start an MLB season is 13 in a row by the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers and 1982 Atlanta Braves. The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers have the record for the longest winning streak to start a season, in which they went on to win the World Series at 10 straight wins.

That any team starts this season at 10-0 is +800 with no at -2000. Any club to start 5-0 is -300 with no at +200. On the race to 10 wins, the Houston Astros, Dodgers and Yankees are all +650 favorites. Defending World Series champion Houston will be without All-Star second baseman and former MVP Jose Altuve for at least the first two months after he was injured in the World Baseball Classic.
