Do People Gamble More On Android Or iOS?

Think people are just gambling from their desktop? Think again. More than ever, people are using their mobile devices to hit the casino — but which is more popular, iOS or Android? We've got the answer.

As online gambling rises in popularity, especially in these times of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, it only makes sense that mobile gambling would become more and more popular as well. I mean, think about it — would you rather spend your Saturday night gambling sesh spinning the reels from your work-from-home computer desk, or from the comfort of your living room couch with a bowl of popcorn on your lap?

Now that we’ve gotten computer vs. mobile gaming out of the way, onto the next debate: iPhone vs Android gaming.

The iPhone vs Android debate has been going on for years, pretty much since the two smartphones began coexisting. Having used both, I think they each have their perks (and even though I’m a current iPhone user, I have to admit, Android does have far more perks), but there is a clear favorite when it comes to mobile gamblers.

Let’s look at the revenue of leading casino game publishers, generated from both Android and iOS devices for the month of February 2021, to see which smartphone came out on top.

Pick your poison — iPhone or Android?

Android Gambling Revenue

According to Statista, the top game publisher in terms of earnings was Moon Active, which generated $50.87 million USD in the month of February from in-app purchases worldwidfip Coming in at a close second was IGG.COM with $48.67 million USD.

iPhone Gambling Revenue

The top game publisher on iOS devices was Playtika, which generated $28.18 million USD worldwide in the month of February. Coming in second was Moon Active again, who generated $26.31 million USD. Though these are still impressive amounts, they pale in comparison to Moon Active’s revenue on Android devices. In fact, the amounts added together only surpass the top Android amount by just over $4 million USD.

This leads me to conclude that more people gamble on Android as opposed to iOS — or, at the very least, that Android users have a much more flexible bankroll to work with.

Part of this large gap could be due to the fact that Apple uses much stricter guidelines when allowing games into their App Store than Google does. In the past, Apple has deleted numerous casino games from the App Store because of concerns over user safety and security. Google, however, doesn’t have as strict of guidelines when it comes to apps in the Google Play Store, so there is a larger array of casino games available for its users. However, that’s all purely speculation.
