Odell Beckham Jr. 2023 NFL Odds: Which Team Signs Pro Bowl Receiver?

Several teams are chasing free-agent wideout Odell Beckham Jr.

Sports

If your favorite NFL team is in need of wide receiver help, it’s not a good year to be looking in free agency with a very average crop of wideouts available.

The various experts generally agree that the top three on the market were Jakobi Meyers of the New England Patriots, JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Kansas City Chiefs and Allen Lazard of the Green Bay Packers. All are now off the board as Meyers signed with the Las Vegas Raiders to join forces with new Vegas quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, Smith-Schuster landed in New England to essentially replace Meyers, and Lazard signed with the New York Jets.

Did the Jets really need Lazard? No, but they signed him because Aaron Rodgers asked them to and a trade sending Rodgers from Green Bay to New York is imminent – A-Rod publicly stated Wednesday that’s where he wants to play, so it’s a done deal once compensation is worked out.

Rodgers actually asked the Jets to sign a few players, including one he has never played with: Odell Beckham Jr. Let’s break down the betting options at Bovada for Beckham’s 2023 team.

What Rodgers Wants …

Had this been about 3-4 years ago, OBJ would be among the top free agents on the market regardless of position as a three-time Pro Bowl selection and former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. However, the 30-year-old is not that guy any longer and hasn’t played since the second quarter of Super Bowl 56 for the Los Angeles Rams when he tore his ACL – Beckham had the game’s first TD as LA beat Cincinnati.

OBJ met with the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants – the team that drafted him No. 12 overall in 2014 out of LSU – during last season but didn’t feel 100 percent healthy so he didn’t sign with anyone. He is healthy now.

The Jets are the +190 NFL betting favorites for Beckham and if Rodgers wants him, that’s easy to see why even though they don’t really need him and might not have the cap space. Beckham was courted by Rodgers’ Packers before signing with the Rams during the 2021 season.

Dallas is +425 with defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City and the Giants both at +450. The Chiefs do need to replace Smith-Schuster, and if Beckham wants a second Super Bowl ring where better place to go than to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes? If Beckham has a chance to play in New York again and catch passes from Rodgers or the Giants’ Daniel Jones, whom do you think he chooses?

Could Beckham return to the Rams (+1000)? They did want him back last season, but are now in a bit of a rebuild, so he wouldn’t make much sense. New England (+1200) likely is out after adding Smith-Schuster. Miami (+1400) would be downright frightening with Beckham added to fellow star wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. There is virtually no chance OBJ goes to Green Bay (+2800) with Rodgers gone.

How about a return to his Louisiana roots with New Orleans (+1800) and new starting QB Derek Carr? Interestingly, Buffalo is not even a sports betting option, despite a need for a No. 2 wideout opposite Stefon Diggs.
