Tom Brady Down But Not Out
NFL betting fans know that quarterbacks aren’t supposed to be still playing at age 45, much less at an elite level. During the 2022 regular season, 45-year-old Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished third in the league with 4,694 yards and led with 490 completions, breaking his own single-season record.
TB12 is still one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but he somewhat looked his age in a 31-14 Wild Card Round loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Yes, Brady threw for 351 yards and two scores but much of that in garbage time. He also had a crushing interception in the Dallas end zone at the start of the second quarter with the Bucs only down 6-0. The Cowboys would quickly take a 12-0 lead and never looked back.
Brady’s pick was his first red zone interception as a Buccaneer and his first red zone at home since 2016. He had thrown 409 red zone passes and 358 red zone passes at home without an INT, both the longest such streaks since 1991 (including playoffs).
After the loss, Brady’s first in eight career games vs. the Cowboys, the seven-time Super Bowl champion had no definitive answers for his playing future as he enters unrestricted free agency. The Bucs can’t slap the franchise tag on Brady, so he can literally sign anywhere – although the way he said thank you to the Tampa Bay organization, it seemed like his days there were finished.
Will Tom Brady Retire?
To be clear: Tom Brady has not made a definitive decision regarding his future yet. While he may sign with another team, he might also opt to retire (again). The sports betting odds currently favor Brady returning to the field as he is -150 not to retire. The bookies do clearly believe that Brady may decide to hang it up as he is +110 to retire after this season.
If Brady does decide to continue for an unprecedented 24th season, there are plenty of teams who would be interested. The best online sports betting sites are already offering odds on where Brady may play come the 2023 regular season if he decides to leave Tampa Bay.
