Georgia Looks to Make History in 2024

The 2022-23 college football season came to an end Monday night in Los Angeles with what college football betting fans expected most of the season all along: No. 1 Georgia becoming the first repeat national champion in the College Football Playoff era. The Dawgs obliterated No. 3 TCU 65-7 at SoFi Stadium to also become the first overall repeat champ since Alabama in 2011 & ’12. It was the largest margin of victory not just in a CFP game ever but any bowl game ever!

Georgia is the 14th team to win back-to-back titles since the Associated Press began naming a champion in 1936. No team has threepeated in that era – the last to do so was Minnesota from 1934-36. On the precipice of history, Head Coach Kirby Smart is confident that the foundations of a dynasty are in place and we may well see the first threepeat in almost a century.

The College Football Playoff semifinals for the 2023-24 season are both on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana. The title game is Jan. 8, 2024, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

According to Bovada Sportsbook, Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs are the early +300 favorites to make history.

NFL Draft to Hit Georgia Hard Again

Georgia had a record-setting 15 players drafted off last year’s national championship team and while it may not hit that number in April, Smart is going to lose a lot of talent again. While this influx of talent will surely delight NFL betting fans, it may potentially put a stumbling block between Georgia and their history-making third championship.

In the 2023 NFL draft, Georgia may potentially see eight players drafted within the first two rounds:

  • Defensive tackle Jalen Carter (who might go No. 1 overall)
  • Cornerback Kelee Ringo
  • Offensive tackle Broderick Jones
  • Tight end Darnell Washington
  • Linebacker Nolan Smith
  • Safety Christopher Smith
  • Center Sedrick Van Pran
  • Running back Kenny McIntosh

Current 2023-24 College Football Champions Odds

According to Bovada, one of our top recommended online sports betting sites, these are the top picks for the 2023-24 NCAA Football Champions:

Team Current NCAA Football Odds
Georgia +300
Ohio State +700
Alabama +700
Michigan +800
USC +1,200
Clemson +1,600
Texas +1,800
Tennessee +2,000
Florida State +2,000
Penn State +2,000
LSU +2,000

As it stands, Ohio State and Alabama are the next favorites to win the NCAA Football Championship in 2024 at +700. The Tide missed this season’s College Football Playoffs but have never missed consecutive playoffs. They must replace one of the best quarterbacks in school history in Bryce Young, as must the Buckeyes in CJ Stroud.

Michigan got great news on Monday with All-American tailback Blake Corum surprisingly opting to return to Ann Arbor rather than declare for the draft. But will Coach Jim Harbaugh stick around or go to the NFL? USC brings back Heisman Trophy-winning QB Caleb Williams, the early favorite to repeat for that award.

The latest real money sports betting odds have TCU at +5,000 but will lose a lot of talent to the draft, led by QB and Heisman runner-up Max Duggan. The Frogs were massive +20,000 title long shots entering the 2022 season.
