5 SummerSlam Predictions

1) Theory to Upset Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Roman Reigns (c) -400
Brock Lesnar +200

At Money in the Bank last month, Theory became an unlikely Mr. Money in the Bank after becoming a last-minute addition to the match. The protΓ©gΓ© of Mr. McMahon, Theory has taunted both the champion Roman Reigns and challenger Brock Lesnar in recent weeks by heavily hinting that he will cash in his contract at SummerSlam and walk away as the youngest WWE Champion since Lesnar himself.

As it stands, the main event of SummerSlam is a last man standing match between Reigns and Lesnar. In order to win the match, one competitor has to incapacitate their opponent so that they cannot get up before the count of ten. Where this gets really interesting is that Theory could cash in mid-match as Reigns and Lesnar destroy one another.Β Theoretically, Theory could win the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship without pinning either Reigns or Lesnar.

Currently, the bookies have Reigns as heavy favorite to win the match and retain the title. But I would exercise caution here – if Theory does cash-in during the match, I believe he’ll be a lock to walk away the youngest male world champion in WWE since Randy Orton won his first world title back at SummerSlam 2004.

2) Bianca Belair to Retain the Raw Women’s Championship

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Bianca Belair (c) -250
Becky Lynch +175

After hitting the highest point of her career by defeating Sasha Banks for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 37, Bianca Belair hit a low point when she lost the title in 26 seconds to Becky Lynch at SummerSlam last year.

Since being humbled by Lynch, Belair has been on a tear ever since. She worked her way back up the ladder and captured the Raw Women’s Championship from Big Time Becks at WrestleMania 38. This loss nearly broke Lynch who has been fairly unhinged ever since, but her laser-focus on Belair’s title has kept her going heading into SummerSlam.

Lynch is fairly confident that she can overcome the EST of WWE, but the bookies still back Belair to retain the title at SummerSlam. In my opinion, Bianca Belair should be able to withstand Lynch but there is one potential scenario where she may be distracted. According to PWInsider, Bayley could be set to return from injury at SummerSlam.

The Role Model will have Belair in her sights as they have unfinished business – Belair and Bayley were set to meet for final showdown at Money in the Bank last year prior to Bayley’s injury. If Bayley does return, I could see her disrupting Belair and potentially handing Lynch the title.

3) Liv Morgan to Retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Liv Morgan (c) -200
Ronda Rousey +150

Liv fans rejoiced at Money in the Bank as the fan favorite not only won the contract but she successfully cashed in on Ronda Rousey to become the new Smackdown Women’s Champion. The formerΒ UFC champion had just emerged victorious in a technical match against Natalya, but an injured knee left Rousey vulnerable to a motivated Liv Morgan.

In my opinion, WWE have underestimated just how popular Liv Morgan is with fans but she is being roundly celebrated by her peers and by audiences at tv tapings and live events. The amazing response to Morgan has definitely bolstered her chances of a longer title reign, and this is being reflected by the bookies. Morgan is currently the favorite to retain over Rousey and I would be inclined to agree with the sports betting odds on this one.

I feel that Liv Morgan will retain but there will be some interference, possibly by a returning Charlotte Flair. For Morgan fans, a jubilant Nissan Stadium in Nashville celebrating their favorite could be a moment of the night!

4) Logan Paul to Defeat the Miz

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Logan Paul -450
Brock Lesnar +375

Social media megastar Logan Paul made headlines in June when he signed a contract to become a WWE superstar. After transitioning over from boxing following his bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr, Paul made his in-ring debut at WrestleMania 38 when he teamed with the Miz to defeat the Mysterios.

Despite the controversies that surround Logan and Jake Paul, Logan Paul was fairly impressive at WrestleMania and impressed his critics. The Miz ultimately turned on Paul at WrestleMania which, although it was clearly meant to be a betrayal, earned some of the biggest cheers of the weekend. Paul has all of the physical and athletic skills to defeat the Miz, but theΒ Most Must-See Superstar is a wily veteran with the 2-time NXT Champion Ciampa on his side.

I think it’s a solid lock that Logan Paul will get his revenge and defeat the Miz at SummerSlam. What will be interesting is how Paul progresses in WWE. His contract is not just for SummerSlam, so expect to see Paul more regularly in WWE. In terms of celebrities in pro wrestling, let’s hope he’s more Bad Bunny and less David Arquette.

5) The Street Profits to Dethrone the Usos

Wrestlers Latest WWE Odds
The Usos (c) -350
The Street Profits +225

The Usos have recently surpassed one full calendar year as the Smackdown Tag Team Champions and currently hold both titles as the Undisputed Tag Team Champions. The Usos eked out a victory at Money in the Bank which, based on replays, was the result of a mistake by the official. The Street Profits are the strongest challengers to the Usos to date and I feel that they have to finally dethrone the Bloodline.

With a massive crowd behind them, I feel that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins can finally reclaim their championships which they haven’t held since January 2021! The bookies have the Usos as favorites and I can’t fully dispute those odds. The Usos have benefitted from both their own success as well as legitimate injuries to several of their opponents over the last year (including Rick Boogs and Randy Orton). There has also been chatter about a possible Street Profits breakup, which is par for the course when it comes to tag teams in WWE – just look at the implosion of Team 2001 in NXT after only 1 week as NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

This is probably our most 50/50 prediction – SummerSlam well could see the end of the Bloodline’s dominance in WWE, but Reigns and the Usos have persevered before so no one should ever fully count them out.

Latest SummerSlam WWE Odds

The card for SummerSlam 2022 is absolutely packed from top to bottom. Here are the latest SummerSlam odds and our predictions for the other matches on the card:

Pat McAfee vs Happy Corbin

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Pat McAfee -300
Happy Corbin +200

Pat McAfee is probably one of the most popular personalities in the WWE, if not in all of sports. The former punter for the Indianapolis Colts not only hosts the hugely successful The Pat McAfee Show,Β  he is also the color commentator on WWE Smackdown. McAfee stepped into the ring for the first time since NXT at WrestleMania 38 when he faced not only Theory, but also Mr. McMahon!

As of late, McAfee has been embroiled in a feud with Happy Corbin with McAfee barely hiding his disdain. McAfee and Corbin have a long history – the two roomed together briefly back in 2009 when both were signed with the Indianapolis Colts. But this reunion will almost certainly lead to a Pat McAfee victory in Nashville.

Bobby Lashley vs Theory – United States Championship Match

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Bobby Lashley (c) -300
Theory +200

Lashley regained the United States Championship at Money in the Bank but his accomplishment was somewhat overshadowed by the former champion Theory’s success in the main event. Unfortunately, I feel the same will happen at SummerSlam.

Both the bookies and I feel that Lashley will pick up the victory and retain his title, but I feel that Theory will grab the headlines by the end of the night. Fingers crossed that Lashley can claim the spotlight he deserves at Clash at the Castle in Wales in September.

Seth Rollins vs Riddle

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Seth Rollins +110
Riddle -150

This is my pick for match of the night – both Riddle and Rollins are in excellent form recently so I would expect them to continue at SummerSlam. Both wrestlers are somewhat adrift, Riddle cannot challenge for the title while Reigns is champion and Rollins is coming off an 0-3 run against Cody Rhodes.

This match is a toss-up, but I’m going to back Seth Rollins here. It’s been a long time since Rollins has held gold and it would be fantastic to see him back in the main event where he belongs. To his credit, Riddle has really come into his own after losing Randy Orton to injury. Be prepared for this one to steal the show!
