LA Rams Look to Rebuild

NFL betting fans know that it’s very difficult to land a franchise quarterback like a Patrick Mahomes. When you have one of those, it’s much easier to build a Super Bowl contender, but the vast majority of teams don’t have one.

The Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl following the 2021 season, but they paid a massive tax in doing so via trades for the likes of QB Matthew Stafford and cornerback Jalen Ramsey plus big contract extensions to those two, Aaron Donald, and others.

The Rams and online sports betting fans saw that tax bill came due this past season as the Rams collapsed to a 5-12 mark, the most losses ever for a defending Super Bowl champion. Now the team is looking to reboot a bit on the fly. Because of trades, LA hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2016 and doesn’t this year, either. Few teams are in worse salary-cap shape.

In order to lower their cap number and perhaps get a 2023 first-round pick, the Rams have put Ramsey on the trade market. The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro won’t lack for suitors off a season in which he had four interceptions, 18 passes defensed, 88 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Read on for the latest sports betting odds currently offered at the best online sportsbook sites on which team Ramsey will be playing for in Week 1 of the 2023 season if not the Rams.

Ramsey Originally Wanted to be a Raider

Ramsey has been in Los Angeles since the 2019 season, when he was traded by Jacksonville midway through that campaign. It seems very likely his time in LA is over as the Rams have had numerous trade talks around the league and once you let that cat out of the bag, you can’t really put it back in.

The Las Vegas Raiders are the +110 favorites to be his next team, and Ramsey would easily slot in as the No. 1 cornerback on the Silver & Black – who have to face Mahomes and Justin Herbert twice every year. Outside of pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, the Raiders do not have an elite player on defense. When Ramsey was first traded by the Jaguars, he wanted to be a Raider (when the team was in Oakland).

The Detroit Lions (+125) own the Rams’ first-round pick this year because of the Stafford trade, and the Lions’ GM is Brad Holmes, who formerly was in the Los Angeles front office so he knows Ramsey well. The Lions were terrific offensively this past season but need major defensive help.

Cincinnati (+700) reached its second straight AFC title game this season but still eyes a first Super Bowl title. Ramsey could put the Bengals over the top. One of Cincy’s top free agents is cornerback Eli Apple, and Ramsey is an upgrade there.

The rest of the betting options: New York Giants (+1100), New England (+1200), Pittsburgh (+1200), Houston (+1200), Minnesota (+1200) and Seattle (+1400).

The Vikings were torched in their playoff loss against the Giants and could potentially offer the No. 23 overall pick for Ramsey. Patriots coach Bill Belichick is well known for taking on other teams’ stars.

Any team that trades for Ramsey likely will have to placate him with a new extension. The Raiders have among the most salary-cap space in the NFL and the Vikings among the least.
