WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship Match – Liv Morgan

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Liv Morgan (c) +300
Ronda Rousey -500

After winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank, Liv Morgan went on to successfully defend her title against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam (albeit in controversial fashion). Rousey, legendary in the world of UFC betting, had several run-ins with management before winning a number one contender match to catapult the Baddest Woman on the Planet back into the title scene.

Fan favorite Morgan more than held her own against Shayna Baszler at Clash at the Castle. A close friend to Rousey, Baszler is a two-time former NXT Women’s Champion and enjoyed a successful MMA career. Despite her fearsome reputation, Morgan persevered and won convincingly. It was certainly telling, therefore, that Morgan didn’t cower in the face of Rousey’s return: instead she upped the ante and challenged her to an Extreme Rules match.

The bookies have Rousey as the overwhelming favorite at Extreme Rules. While I do have a bad feeling that time is running out for Morgan, there are suspicions of more going on. Could Shayna Baszler play an integral role in the match? Baszler has been confronting Rousey in recent weeks and might display some of her trademark aggression towards her friend. My heart is backing Liv Morgan, even though it logically seems that Rousey should win in Philadelphia.

Fight Pit Match – Matt Riddle

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Matt Riddle -260
Seth Rollins +180

Born in NXT during the dark days of the pandemic, the Fight Pit is a hybrid match which combines the brutality of MMA and pro wrestling. Matt Riddle is a pioneer of this match type, coming up short against Timothy Thatcher back in 2020. Riddle’s black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his prowess in UFC, cut short due to his unabashed use of marijuana, makes him a fearsome competitor in Fight Pit.

Seth Rollins is certainly riding high after overcoming Riddle at Clash at the Castle, but I feel he’s bitten off more than he can chew by accepting this challenge. It’s difficult to argue against Rollins being one of the best professional wrestlers of his generation. He boasts a championship pedigree to which few can compare but he is, at heart, a professional wrestler. The Fight Pit is a hybrid of MMA and pro wrestling, which will suit a hybrid competitor like Matt Riddle.

The fans in attendance at Extreme Rules are in for a unique show, but WWE betting fans are in for something that is closer to what UFC betting fans are used to. For that reason, I have to back Matt Riddle to emerge from the Fight Pit victorious.

Strap Match – Karrion Kross

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Karrion Kross -300
Drew McIntyre +200

Since returning at the advent of Triple H’s reign in WWE, two-time former NXT Champion Karrion Kross has had Drew McIntyre squarely in his sights. Cast aside in the McMahon era, Kross has portrayed “The Chosen One” McIntyre as his main target en route to the Undisputed Championship.

Together with Scarlett, Kross has dominated McIntyre in recent weeks via sneak attacks and his lethal Kross Jacket submission. McIntyre challenged Kross to a strap match, in which both competitors are joined by a leather strap, as a way of keeping his enemy as close as possible. This match promises to be brutal and I believe that Kross has McIntyre’s number. Kross has the psychological edge in this feud and is a brutal competitor with a killer instinct that McIntyre may be underestimating.

Raw Women’s Championship Match – Bayley

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Bianca Belair (c) -140
Bayley +100

After their victory over Bianca Belair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss at Clash at the Castle, Damage CTRL have become the dominant force in the women’s division. Dakota Kai and IYO SKY became Women’s Tag Team Champions, righting the perceived refereeing error of the tournament finals, and Bayley has defeated former champions Alexa Bliss and Raquel Rodriguez in single’s competition.

Bayley has now set her sights on the Raw Women’s Championship and Bianca Belair. Bayley gave Belair her first taste of defeat in almost a year in Cardiff and will be looking to rub salt in the wound at Extreme Rules in a ladder match. This gives Bayley a chance at vindication as she missed out on a Smackdown Women’s Championship match against Belair at Money in the Bank 2021 due to an injury which sidelined the Role Model for over a year.

Belair has been overwhelmingly dominant in her almost two years on the main roster. She’s defeated the likes of Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley herself. But can she overcome the numerical advantage that Damage CTRL possess, especially in a ladder match? In my opinion, Bayley is determined, ruthless, and potentially has Belair’s number. I think the bookies may be overlooking Bayley at Extreme Rules.

6 Man Tag Team Match – The Brawling Brutes

Wrestlers Latest WWE Odds
Imperium -200
The Brawling Brutes +140

This is probably the closest match at Extreme Rules: Imperium and the Brawling Brutes have been clashing for weeks, with Sheamus and Gunther stealing the show at Clash at the Castle. This all-European match will see both teams come together just 24 hours after Sheamus challenges Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Both teams are incredibly talented, athletic, and brutal. I think this is the most difficult match to predict, but I would advise readers to watch for the outcome of the IC title match on Smackdown on Friday, October 7th. If Gunther retains (which I think is likely), then I believe the Brawling Brutes will win. But if Sheamus does capture the IC title which has eluded him his whole career, then I’d back Imperium.

I Quit Match – Edge

Wrestler Latest WWE Odds
Edge -150
Finn Bálor +110

Edge returned to thunderous cheers in Edmonton after Judgment Day attempted to injure the Hall of Famer. The Rated R Superstar is still not finished with his former proteges and will take on the legendary Finn Bálor at Extreme Rules in an I Quit match.

The Prince has enjoyed a spectacular career in Japan and the US but this will be the first meeting between Edge and the original leader of Bullet Club. This match could steal the show but I really can’t see Edge saying “I quit“.

My only caveat is the potential interference by the rest of Judgment Day. Although Edge has handily seen off Damian Priest in singles competition, having Priest, Ripley, and Mysterio at ringside could swing the match in Bálor’s favor.

When is Extreme Rules 2022?

Extreme Rules will air live at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Saturday, October 8th. Extreme Rules will be held in the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Where can I watch Extreme Rules?

WWE fans in the United States can watch Extreme Rules live on Peacock. In Canada, you can watch Extreme Rules on Sportsnet Now and for fans in the rest of the world you can watch on the WWE Network.
